The Gaels: Who we are and what we've done

Club Origins

Glaschu Gaels GFC was formed in 1999 after the amalgamation of two local sides, Glencovitt Rovers and Paisley Gaels.

Both clubs at that time were struggling and the decision was taken combine both clubs.

Matched resources and the expertise of such GAA stalwarts, such as Paul Gallagher, Jimmy Kelly, Michael Hollinger and Charlie McCluskey, saw the new club spread its wings very quickly.

Club Success

Over the last 11 years the club's success has been as important off the pitch as well on it. Particularly on Friday nights in The Shed. Just kidding.

We are a sporting establishment that is a bedrock for Irish people living in Glasgow and for people of all nationalities wanting to play a bit of Gaelic football. We have had players of Scottish, French and English and Cork nationalities all pull on the Gaels jersey jersey in the past and do the club proud.

We have established a ladies team, and we continue to work with Glasgow Uni students at college/university level. We believe this work is worthwhile will see the club further improve its foundations.

The club have also taken part in high profile friendly games against the Derry and Down senior squads as well as the Underdogs team managed by Jarlath Burns a few years ago.

Glaschu Gaels have had a successful decade or so despite our young age. We have won thirteen competitions (not including two ladies competition triumphs) in the last six years and we hope even more will follow.
